By no means is a screen reader forced to engage the AudioEye Toolkit solution in order to achieve an accessible user experience. The AudioEye Toolkit is not intended for use with a screen reader; however, there are features available within the Site Menu, Page Elements utilities made available from the Toolkit that can assist in the navigation of the website enabled with the technology. Further, for visual screen reader users (albeit a less common use case), the visualization tools made available from the tool offer additional options to customize the visual display of the website.
More importantly - to assist screen reader users and ensure an optimal user experience - AudioEye leverages its Dynamic Remediation Technology, which applies remediations to the website for the benefit of screen reader users and improving conformance with the informative guidance supplied from the WCAG. Remediations are created by AudioEye SMEs who take feedback from automated testing results and the results of manual testing conducted by assistive technology testers, who leverage the most common browser/screen reader combinations to maximize the site evaluation effort. Remediations are applied through automated and manual processes served from the AudioEye engine, which delivers fixes to the web page when the AudioEye JavaScript serves to the page. The rendered page, DOM, includes fixes which help ensure an optimal user experience. For certain web page elements, such as site navigation and/or carousels, AudioEye may also insert alternative interfaces, which are embedded inline. As a screen reader encounters different elements within the page – as they naturally parse the DOM with their screen reader – these alternative interfaces are provided as accessible options to otherwise inaccessible elements, requiring more refinement before being natively accessible to the screen reader user. To improve the native source, AudioEye continually collaborates with clients as we seek to improve the processes associated with designing and development site content and functionality. This is an ongoing effort.
Additionally, through the AudioEye Toolkit, site visitors are provided options for reporting accessibility issues through the Help Desk. Submitted issues help inform AudioEye prioritization throughout the auditing, remediation, and monitoring processes, which are maintained for as long as the client is subscribed to the AudioEye service.
